The Diva of Ocean Drive closes street for its final "Makeover" PDF Imprimir E-mail
01.11.2007

WHO: The Tides South Beach
WHAT: In an ode to its art deco structure, The Tides South Beach is shutting down Ocean Drive to replace an original decorative pyramid on top of this iconic property. This event marks one of the final stages of the hotel’s complete interior redesign and is a key element signifying the return to its historical status.  The pyramid was removed in 2002 for structural reasons. Its restoration mirrors the preservation of the 1936 icon’s art deco structure

Re-envisioned by acclaimed designer Kelly Wearstler and Los Angeles-based Kor Hotel Group, The Tides fully re-opens in November.

You are invited to take an exclusive sneak peek as the final touches are completed on the exterior of the property and a 250 ton crane returns the 3,000 pound pyramid to its home.

WHEN: Thursday, November 1st, 2007
 6:30 A.M. Press Check-in at Lummus Park

WHERE: Lummus Park, directly across The Tides (1220 Ocean Drive)

MORE: 1220 Ocean Drive, now home to the famed Tides South Beach is recognized by historians as the most probable location of the first family home in Miami Beach in 1914. Inhabited by the first Mayor of Miami Beach, J.N. Lummus (Lummus Park now sits across the street from 1220 Ocean Dr.), Lummus named his home “Salubrity.”  In 1936 Miami’s population was roughly 14,000 people and architect L. Murray Dixon completed one of his “masterpieces,” The Tides
