Miami, FL.- The First Annual Downtown Miami Riverwalk Festival and Boat Parade took place on Saturday Nov. 22, 2008 from 10:00 AM- 4:00 PM at 315-335 South Biscayne Blvd. in the heart of Downtown Miami on the new Riverwalk where the Historic Miami River meets Biscayne Bay .

“The Festival was very good for the Downtown Community- It was educational and interactive-I am looking forward to next years’ event” says Nadia Pierre, Assistant to Mayor of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez. Other dignitaries that were in attendance included Catherine “Hummingbird” Ramirez, Caribe Indian Tribal Queen” who blessed the festival.
Event Features Included: The Children's Corner with clown, face painter, mime, arts and crafts and free food and give-a-ways for the kids, Informational Booths, a monumental sculpture by Romero Britto, complimentary hors d'oeuvres were served, live multicultural music was featured throughout the day, along with a government boat parade lead by the U.S Coast Guard on the Miami River. A painting of the mouth of the Miami River was completed on site by noted local mural artist, Daniel Fila.” A painting of Julia Tuttle, "Mother of Miami" by Miami artist and interior designer Winsome Bolt was unveiled at the VIP event the night before.
David C. Brown, M.A. Director, the event producer said “400 people were in attendance the first year,- mostly residents of the Greater Downtown Miami area. In light of these challenging times, the growing population of downtown residents came together to meet, and celebrate- Sponsor and event-goer, Marwan Iskandar says “the Festival was great and very successful” and wishes to see it continue every year.
