...that redefines the american standard of living
Houston, Tx - Far from being one of the largest states in the North American Continent, Texas is home to what has been categorized as the fourth largest city in The United States: Houston. The city has acquired national and international recognition for hosting some of the world’s most important industry headquarters in the field of energy and healthcare, positioning itself as the second place in the country with the largest amount of headquarters within city limits.

“Houston is one of few places in the world where so many industries from so many different fields come together, and that has led people from all over the United States and the world to consider moving to such vibrant city,” explained Jorge Pulido, Sales Director for El Santuario Wellness Village, Houston’s upcoming eco-friendly, master planned community. “These same industries have brought a large international community to the city, turning Houston into what is called a ‘multi-cultural melting pot’.”

With 341 eco-friendly residences overlooking beautiful lakes and an 18-hole signature golf course designed by Gary Player, El Santuario promises to elevate the meaning of “wellness” to a whole new level. The environmentally friendly community will feature ultimate amenities such as a wellness center with state-of-the-art fitness technology, a nutrition center with certified health professionals, an organic and natural products supermarket, biking trails, access to the Gary Player golf course, and multiple exercise areas designed for other sports.

Residential lots, which will range from 6,600 to 12,600 square feet, will be entitled to the “wellness home” official certification program which includes water, energy and trash recycling and optimization systems as well as maximum energy efficiency, water and air purifying systems. Residents of El Santuario will enjoy convenient access to Downtown Houston, only 30 minutes away from the development.

This year, Houston was granted number one position in a 2008 Best Cities list published by Kiplinger.com, a finance and business forecast website. Among the things that made this great city the ideal place to live were lower costs of living compared to other big cities in the United States, and a rapidly-growing local economy fostered by an array of oil related and healthcare industries in the area.

“Houston has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment, industries and job opportunities for such a relatively low cost of living. To me, it is as complete and diverse as living in a city such as New York, for example, where the cost of living could be much higher,” explained Jorge Pulido.

BEST HEALTH CARE IN THE NATION
Throughout the years, the city of Houston has acquired worldwide recognition for its healthcare industry. Institutions related to the field of research and education in the healthcare industry that have led to significant health advancements can be found in the city. One of the best known centers in Houston is called the Texas Medical Center. Also known as TMC, the center hosts 46 non-profit, health institutions that cater to people of all economic levels; two medical schools; four nursing schools; and pharmacies. An interesting fact about TMC is that the center performs the highest amount of heart surgeries in the world. TMC takes pride on being one of the first medical centers to develop the largest and most successful air ambulance service, called Life Flight.

A PLACE TO EXPERIENCE THE ARTS
Houston is home to the second biggest center for visual and performing arts after New York City, called the Houston Theater District. This art district comprises 17 blocks of movie theaters, professional theater companies and restaurants. World-renowned companies such as The Houston Grand Opera, The Houston Ballet and the Houston Symphony reside in this district. For those who enjoy plays, the district hosts an array of Broadway productions and other type of visual arts shows such as Cirque du Soleil. The Bayou City Art Festival has become one of the country’s favorite and most popular, being held twice a year and attracting thousands of spectators.

THE ENERGY INDUSTRY
The city of Houston hosts nine of the 25 most important oil and gas companies, making it the energy capital of the world. The establishment of these companies has generated thousands of employment opportunities for residents, besides a prosperous local economy. Oilfield equipment production centers can also be found in the area of greater Houston. Houston’s petrochemical industry has also generated thousands of jobs for residents, who have seen recent oil price increases as an opportunity for more jobs. Some of the most important national and international oil companies located in Houston include ExxonMobil, CITGO, and Shell.

One of the most important sea ports in the United States is located in Houston, Texas. The Port of Houston, as it is called, includes the Houston Ship Channel. The port is within close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and hosts more than 150 companies, according to The Port of Houston Authority. Throughout the years, the port has been one of Houston’s main job providers and up to date, has produced an economic impact of more than $118 billion.  Other means of transportation include the George Bush International Airport, founded in the late sixties. In 2007, it was named one of the busiest airports in the United States, providing domestic flights as well as international flights to continents such as Europe, Asia and North and South America among others.

NASA’s presence in Houston has been marked by the establishment of the Johnson Space Center. The venue has served as a training center for astronauts as well as control center for missions. The center is also host to the Space Center Houston, where visitors can get involved in a variety of activities such as a general tour of NASA and astronauts’ training sessions.

“In the upcoming years, I believe Houston will continue to strive as a vibrant, multicultural city and an ideal place to live,” claimed Jorge Pulido, who is confident that El Santuario Wellness Village will become Houston’s upcoming eco-friendly development.
