Hialeah, Florida - In the middle of these difficult economic times, the City of Hialeah's Mayor, Julio Robaina, has good news for its residents. The City went from a "8" rating to a "7" rating in the Community Rating System (CRS) after a CRS Specialist visited the City last year. This new rating will result in a 15 percent discount in Flood Insurance for Hialeah homeowners.
"In yet another effort to help our residents save money, we have gained this improved rating through the hard work of our staff and community, to help our residents in this time of economic hardships," said Mayor Robaina.
The National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) CRS is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements. As a result, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community actions meeting the three goals of the CRS: reduce flood losses, facilitate accurate insurance rating and promote the awareness of flood insurance.
The City of Hialeah has gone above and beyond to be able to get this discount for its residents, and thanks to its efforts, it's a reality.
This discount will be effective upon renewal or creation of a new policy. For more information on this discount, homeowners should contact their current Flood Insurance Company.
