Hialeah, Florida - Hialeah Mayor & Educational Advocate, Julio Robaina, just attended The Foundation for Excellence in Education, with The James Madison Institute, first annual education summit, Excellence in Action, taking place at the Walt Disney World Contemporary Resort in Orlando, this week. The summit brought together the best minds in the nation to answer the question, What's next for education?
Always looking for ways to improve education in Hialeah, Mayor Julio Robaina joined several hundred educational leaders and government officials, including 20 Senators, from around the United States in the two-day summit and immersed himself in provocative discussions & debates regarding the future of education in America. Topics covered ranged from raising educational standards, measuring progress, demanding accountability to closing the achievement gap and expanding school choices.
Mayor Robaina, along with his Chief of Staff David Concepcion and Hialeah Educational Advisor, Katharine Cue, met one-on-one with companies and organizations offering programs and partnerships that will lead to improving the education of Hialeah students, focusing on reading initiatives. He also met with other governmental leaders and had the chance to discuss what has and has not worked in their perspective cities as well as what Hialeah is doing to improve education such as launching the Reading Corners program inside every city park, The Creative Learning & Play Afterschool Program, The E.M.I. Awards, the PASS Program, updating and creating new E-Libraries around the city and the creation of an Educational Advisory Board.
Summit keynote speakers included the Foundation for Excellence in Education founder and Chairperson, Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Former First Lady Barbara Bush, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Secretary Margaret Spellings, Senator Tony Williams and ABC 20/20 Correspondent John Stossel. |
