Miami, FL - Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, in collaboration with community partners from the City of Opa-Locka Police and Public Works Departments, DARE, Department of Juvenile Justice, Belafonte Tacolcy Center, Children’s Trust, Florida Department of Children and Families, Community Empowerment Team, and other local agencies, will host a clean-up project of the Magnolia North area of Opa-Locka this Tuesday, June 24th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The area has long been plagued by violence, neglected of service, and is full of vacant lots and dilapidated structures. Tuesday’s event will bring together the residents of this community who have become very proactive in working vigilantly with city and county officials to change the image of the former area known as “The Triangle”. Volunteers from numerous community agencies have signed up to help the community create a cleaner and safer neighborhood.
"A community can only be turned around when we all work together to accomplish that goal,” commented State Attorney Fernandez Rundle. “The residents of Opa-Locka have a deep foundation of spirit and loyalty to their community on which they can draw. I know our efforts on Tuesday will have a positive, long-lasting effect for the city.”
Food, beverages, and the necessary equipment needed to complete the project will be provided. Everyone is welcome to join in this worthwhile clean-up effort.
Volunteers are asked to meet at 9:00 AM on Tuesday morning in the parking lot of the Opa-Locka Cultural Arts Center located at 2105 Ali-Baba Avenue. For further information, please contact Kionne McGhee at 305-636-2240.
