Miami, FL - The City of Miami suffered tremendous tree canopy loss during the last two hurricane seasons. To increase the tree canopy, the City of Miami was awarded a grant of over $100,000 to plant 620 new trees of different species. Through these grants, Public Works planted 279 gumbo limbos, 164 green button woods, 17 silver button woods, 111 mahogany trees, 1 Royal Palm and 48 cassia trees.
The addition of the 620 trees is very much welcome throughout the community, benefiting Little Haiti and Flagami neighborhoods. The areas that benefited from this planting include:
Little Haiti: south of North 84th Street, North of North 35th Street, West of North 4th Avenue and East of North 6th Avenue.
Flagami: south of Northwest 7th Street, West of West 37th Avenue, East of Tamiami Canal Drive and North of Southwest 8th Street.
The tree planting was made possible with support from the Florida Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service.
The Department of Public Works aims to maintain the City infrastructures, improve the quality of life of the residents, treat every neighborhood equally, and maintain a well disciplined and professional work force. Our goal is to deliver timely and efficient first rated services, thus improving our image and maintaining the community's trust. |
