Hialeah goes Green! PDF Imprimir E-mail
29.05.2008

Steadily increasing climate temperatures, pollution and deforestation are all contributing to the destruction of our sacred planet.  Many have already jumped on board to various eco-initiatives to slow down or completely halt the effects of years of poor judgment and planet mistreatment on our end. Now more than ever, everyone is urged to make small, positive changes in their lifestyles to accelerate big changes on the health of our environment.

Mayor Julio Robaina, the City of Hialeah and the City Council along with Urbieta Oil Company & Univision are making green a priority and presenting - Green Day Hialeah! An eco-festival geared at educating and enlightening our citizens to the seriousness of the problem and offering easy, money saving alternatives that can lessen the impact we make on the environment.

If you own a home and would like to expand your canopy, free trees will be given on that day. Due to hurricanes, the Citrus Canker epidemic and urban development, shady areas are in decline. Get involved and adopt up to two free trees per household and enjoy the benefits of shade as trees can lower your air-conditioning costs up to 40 % and increase your property value!

There will also be various booths offering eco-friendly solutions such as soy-based insulation for homes & buildings. Various Departments within the City of Hialeah will be on site offering free showerheads, mulch and trees. There will be plenty of entertainment including animal shows courtesy of the Miami Museum of Science and Metrozoo.

World renowned eco-artist Xavier Cortada will be on hand to unveil in Hialeah the Native Flags Project. The project's goal is to have citizens reclaim the land by planting native species and placing the project's green flag as a symbol of commitment to the reforestation of our cities and to serve as a catalyst for conversation regarding conservation.

When:  Saturday, May 31, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m.

Where:  Milander Park, 4800 Palm Avenue
