Hialeah, FL - The Special Olympics Miami-Dade County granted The City of Hialeah's Special Population program a 2008 Inspire Greatness Award in recognition of the remarkable services they offer the special population. Additionally, Danny Perez, a long-time participant in the program, received the Inspirational Athlete of the year Award.
Danny has been a member of the Edgar J. Hall Special Population Program for 23 years and possesses many of the characteristics that has earned him the respect and admiration of his community. An athlete with leadership qualities and a drive to win, Danny has been involved in sports for most of his life. He has been competing at Special Olympics events since age 12 in the areas of cycling, basketball, soccer, baseball and power lifting. His most recent wins include a bronze medal and fourth-place in cycling in 2007.

The Edgar J. Hall Special Population Center has been serving the community since the 1970's. Through this specialized program, the City encourages its participants to fully participate in events such as Special Olympics that highlight skill, courage and friendship among Special Olympians, their families and the community. Mark Thomson, Executive Director of Special Olympics Miami-Dade County, will be on hand on May 13, 2008 at the City of Hialeah's Council Meeting at 7:00pm to share the awards with the Mayor and City Council.
