Miami, FL - Miami-Dade County State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, in collaboration with Sweetwater Mayor Manuel Moroño and Police Chief Roberto Fulgueira, are proud to announce the initiation of the MOVES Program in the City of Sweetwater as a part of the overall effort by community leaders to combat family violence.
MOVES (Mobile Operations Victim Emergency Services) was created in 1998 by State Attorney Fernandez Rundle in order to expedite services to victims of domestic violence and other crimes. MOVES responds immediately after a domestic violence arrest to gather a victim’s valuable testimony and that of the involved police officer. MOVES staff also provide information on programs and referral services available to victims.
The efforts of State Attorney Fernandez Rundle, Mayor Moroño, Chief Fulgueira, Major Roberto Ochoa, Corporal Milian Zabala, and MOVES Director Juan Ferreiro on behalf of the residents of Sweetwater were made with one goal in mind: to assist the city’s police department to better meet the needs of all the residents of this diverse community.
“By taking this important step, we will be fighting violence in the home which affects all the residents in a household, adults and children alike,” commented State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “Through early action and intervention, we may be able to end the suffering and fear that is always a part of these crimes of violence. I commend the City of Sweetwater for their commitment toward ending these horrible crimes.”
