Smuts of The Related Group has been appointed vice president and managing director overseeing the St. Regis® Resort & Residences, Bal Harbour, the five-star oceanfront resort and residential condominium located across from Bal Harbour Shops and developed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.® and The Related Group.

Most recently, Smuts was chief operating officer at Brown Hill Development/ Jeffrey M. Brown Associates Inc. with offices in New York City and Philadelphia, where he handled operations of a prestigious development firm with mixed-use, residential, educational, retail and governmental projects in the north and southeast. Previously he worked for the Barclay White Skanska Inc. in Pennsylvania as vice president and project executive. Smuts is a registered professional engineer and holds a masters degree in civil engineering from Drexel University. 

At St. Regis® Resort & Residences, Bal Harbour he is responsible for complete development, construction, marketing and sales of the project. The Sheraton Bal Harbour was recently imploded to make way for three new high rise towers and construction has since commenced. When complete, the three all-glass towers will comprise 268 ultra-luxury Residences, 36 condo-hotel suites, 183 hotel rooms and 24 St. Regis Residence Club® Residences.
